Who is Coach Douglas?
First, I am entering my 19th year of teaching, and my 7th year of teaching physical education. I've taught 15 of my 19 years in Catholic schools in the Hartford, CT area, and spent the 2015-16 school year at Ivy Hawn Charter School for the Arts in Lake Helen, FL. In addition to phys ed, I've taught pretty much every core subject, mainly in middle school, as well as computers and 8th grade writing.
Not only have I taught in Catholic schools, but I'm also a product of Hartford, CT-area Catholic schools as well. I graduated from St. Augustine School in Hartford in 1994, and then went on to Northwest Catholic High School in West Hartford, graduating in 1998. I am a 2002 graduate of Endicott College in Beverly, MA, with a B.S. in Communications. While at Endicott, I ran cross country for all four years, played on the men's volleyball team for two years, and served as the sports editor for the school newspaper, The Endicott Observer, for three years.
I am also a very passionate sports fan. Being born and raised in Hartford, I've been a Hartford Whalers fan since I could walk (even though they don't exist anymore), and also root for the home state UConn Huskies too. My favorite teams are the Atlanta Braves (MLB), Kansas City Chiefs (NFL), Dallas Stars (NHL), and Florida State Seminoles (NCAA Football).
When I'm not at school, I enjoy spending time with my family. I have two sons- Ethan, who, unfortunately, passed away in May 2019 at the age of 12, and Dylan, 8. Our favorite places to go include the bowling alley, all of the Disney parks, and the beach.
As I mentioned earlier, I am a very passionate sports fan, but I also love to play sports, too. My favorite sport is volleyball. Not only do I love to play it, but I've been a coach as well, having started in 2004 and coached at the high school, club, and college levels.
